Unleash Your Inner Foodie: FOR YOUR OSCAR PARTY CONSIDERATION

Unleash Your Inner Foodie: FOR YOUR OSCAR PARTY CONSIDERATION

I am once again honored to have DeeAnn McArdle publish one of my articles for her wonderful foodie and entertaining website "Unleash Your Inner Foodie". She asked me for my annual article regarding all things Oscars! We throw an Oscar party each year with many friends so I thought this was a perfect idea for her website. Don't forget to check out the rest of her website for fabulous recipes and cocktails for your Oscar party!

Here's the beginning of the article:

“We’re delighted our favorite Movie Critic – Paul McGuire is back to share his 2012 Oscar reviews and predictions. He also shares his tips on hosting a memorable Oscar party – too fun! I’m busy creating some sweet and savory popcorn toppings for the must-have Oscar viewing snack…

For Your Consideration” is a common phrase used throughout the Oscar season as studios try to promote their films for Oscar votes. One of my favorite parts of the Oscar season is not only watching the movies but hosting our annual Oscar party. We invite anywhere between 20-30 people over to our townhouse and have a grand time. Various appetizers, dishes, and beverages are served as well as Oscar ballots and trivia games for prizes. One of our guests tends to bring a dish based on one of the nominated movies. It is a fun time to be creative and try new recipes. Silver Linings Playbook is up for numerous awards this season, including acting nominations for its four main actors. If you have seen the movie, you will remember how “crabby snacks and homemades” were a big part of the Robert DeNiro’s character’s football game watching. You could make your own version of “crabby snacks and homemade”, and it would be one easy way to incorporate a theme to your Oscar party. It has been a phenomenal year for movies with so many exceptional movies to see. There are some clear frontrunners like Daniel Day-Lewis and Anne Hathaway, but there are other categories that could go in a multitude of directions. Here are some reviews of the celebrated movies as well as my predictions on some of the major categories"

Unleash Your Inner Foodie: THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL

I missed The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel while it was in theaters, but now that it is on DVD/Blu-Ray I thought it would be the perfect movie for DeeAnn McArdle and Unleash Your Inner Foodie. DeeAnn has graciously posted my review on the blog section of her website. Here is the beginning of it:

It’s Foodie Movie night at the McArdle’s and we can hardly wait to watch tonight’s feature – The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel! A big thank you to our favorite movie critic; Paul McGuire for this recommendation and review. I’m off to the grocery store to buy some ingredients to make some Indian spiced nuts, Chutney and Naan to nibble on as we watch the great Judi Dench and Maggie Smith in their adventure! Enjoy!

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
Director: John Madden
Starring: Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel, Maggie Smith, Tom Wilkinson

Her son comments on how she has never done anything without his dad in her life. She is joined by a group of others that are
also taking this pilgrimage for their own specific reasons. Graham (Wilkinson) is retiring from being a judge and is moving back to India. Jean (Downton Abbey’s Penelope Wilton) and Doug (Nighy) are looking for a less expensive place to retire. Muriel (Smith) needs to have hip surgery and a surgeon in India happens to be the cheaper solution for her. Madge and Norman are two singles looking for adventure.

In case you are new to my blog, I write monthly movie reviews for DeeAnn McArdle and her dining and entertaining website, "Unleash Your Inner Foodie". She has a wonderful website full of recipes, full menus, dining/entertaining ideas and anything else involving food and entertaining. The movie of choice for September is Babette's Feast. It's wonderful Danish movie that one the Oscar for Best Forgein film.

Here's the beginning of the article:

Our movie critic, Paul McGuire is back to share his review of one of his favorite foodie movies – get your popcorn, wine and enjoy!

BABETTE’S FEAST (1987)
Director: Gabriel Axel. Starring: Stéphane Audran, Birgitte Federspiel, Bodil Kjer

“Every evening I shall sit down to dine with you. Not with my body, which is of no importance, but with my soul.
Because this evening I have learned, my dear, that in this beautiful world of ours, all things are possible.”

In the town of Jutland, Denmark in the 19th Century, Martine (Federspiel) and Filippa (Kjer) are two sisters who live a very religious, pious life. Their father is a priest and prophet with a small group of devout followers. Love and marriage is forbidden. The young sisters must come to learn the hard way. Lorens, a young Swedish officer, catches the eye of Martine but knows he cannot have her. He leaves for war but cannot get her off his mind. Achille Pepin, a baritone opera singer, travels to Jutland while performing to cure his melancholic state. He gets transfixed by the melodious sounds coming from a far. He enters the church and is immediately transfixed by Filippa’s beauty. He approaches her father and offers his services of voice lessons to Filippa in order to woo her. He agrees, only to realize what Achille’s true intention happens to be. Achille and Filippa share a duet as Father and Martine listen on in the other room. He promises to sweep her away to move on to a better life. Filippa stops their lessons and Achille is heartbroken.

Unleash Your Inner Foodie: CHOCOLAT

One of my many food vices is chocolate. I blame my mother for our family sweet tooth. I’ve been severely craving chocolate lately, so I thought what better time for a new article for DeeAnn McArdle and “Unleash Your Inner Foodie”. This month’s foodie movie is devoted to Johnny Depp and Juliette Binoche in Chocolat. Don’t worry, I devoured a glass of red wine and a piece of chocolate during the movie to satistfy my craving. Chocolat is a perfect movie for a rainy day or to accompany a chocolate tasting party with friends. DeeAnn has posted the review, and it is up on her site.

Here’s the beginning of it:

"Some things are just made to go together. Just like chocolate and wine, Paul McGuire and Movie Reviews are perfectly matched for each other! I know you’re going to love Paul’s review of the classic foodie movie; Chocolat. I hope it inspire’s you to throw a Chocolat Party!..."
