OSCAR WATCH 2013

The Academy Award Nominations have been announced! There are MANY MANY surprises, snubs, and interesting choices. One of the biggest omissions (in my opinion) is that The Dark Knight Rises did not receive a single nomination even in the technical categories. One of my favorites of the year,Lincoln , leads the pack with 12 nominations.

Tune in to ABC Sunday, February 24 for the live broadcast. Seth McFarlane is hosting and will surely make this a very funny evening.

WHO WILL WIN?  ARGO.  Argo is in the lead after winning both the Producers Guild Award and the Golden Globe Award for Best Picture.  The last five winners of the Producers Guild have gone on to win Best Picture.  I think the film is really gaining momentum after the clear snub for Ben Affleck. The only set back against Argo is that only one other time in Oscar history has a film won Best Picture without a nomination for it's director.

SNUBS: Ben Affleck, Kathryn Bigelow, and Tom Hooper were expected to get nominations. Affleck has since won the Golden Globe, Directors Guild, and BAFTA Awards for Best Director
WHO WILL WIN? STEVEN SPIELBERG, Lincoln.  My bet is on Spielberg at this point as Lincoln leads the nominations. Ben Afflecek would have won this year except he was shockingly snubbed despite the wins from the Golden Globes, DGA, and BAFTAs

SNUBS: Helen Mirren for Hitchcock and Marion Cotillard for Rust and Bone are both previous winners that received other nominations this year from the Golden Globes and SAG Awards

SNUBS John Hawkes gets my vote as the biggest omission for The Sessions
WHO WILL WIN? DANIEL DAY-LEWIS, Lincoln.  I would be shocked if Daniel Day-Lewis did NOT win this category. He is the clear winner by a long shot.

SNUBS Leonardo DiCaprio has clearly been snubbed for his villainous role in Django Unchained
WHO WILL WIN? TOMMY LEE JONES, Lincoln.  Waltz won the Golden Globe, but since he was not nominated for a SAG, Tommy Lee Jones won.  I think Jones has the edge over Waltz come Oscar night.
WHO COULD BE THE SURPRISE WIN? Robert DeNiro, Silver Linings Playbook.  He is gaining some last minute momentum.
